The first progress sharing meeting with DSHE (Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education) took place at Training Studio, DSHE on 1st February, 2016. The objective of the event was to discuss on outcomes of the project and generate opportunities in mainstreaming its approaches within the existing government systems. Honorable representatives from DSHE, NEAM (National Academy for Educational Management), NCTB (National Curriculum and Textbook Board), SESIP (Secondary Education Sector Improvement Programme), SEQAEP (Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project) and TQI II (Teaching Quality Improvement-Phase two) attended the meeting. It was chaired by Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Project Director of EIA.
Professor Moshiuzzaman, Member (Curriculum), Secondary, NCTB highlighted joint initiatives between NCTB and EIA for audio visual materials development and uploading those onto NCTB website. He said, “The information of this is already circulated in twenty national daily newspapers and we also have planned for a television commercial regarding this.”
Dr. Md. Mahmud-Ul-Haque, Project Director, SEQAEP was very impressed about the changes what EIA is bringing in the classroom and he discussed about further collaborative opportunities of EIA with SEQAEP, as SEQAEP is also working on professional development for secondary teachers.
Mr. Ratan Kumar Roy, Joint Programme Director, SESIP mentioned “as a flagship sector-wide programme for secondary, SESIP has planned to develop teacher training materials, so there are scopes for EIA to contribute there.”
Professor Md. Hamidul Haque, Director General, NEAM, stated his eagerness in enhancing capacity building of USEOs (Upazila Secondary Education Officers). He also expressed his interest to upload EIA materials on NAEM’s website.
Professor Fahima Khatun, Director General, DSHE and also the chief guest of the meeting expressed her interest to upload EIA audio visual materials on DSHE website and sending the circular for proper use of these to the schools by USEOs. She also pledged her commitment to support EIA further.
In his speech the Project Director, Md. Siddiqur Rahman referred, “DPE (Directorate of Primary Education) has stepped ahead in undertaking the ownership of the project as EIA contents and techniques have already been embedded in the training manual of Subject-based Training (SbT)-English. Master trainers and Teacher Trainers also got EIA training with the support from DPE. So, similar initiatives from DSHE can sustain the project approaches and activities in secondary level.”
The meeting ends with a positive note by the vision of working together with the concerned people of these key organizations in future.
